Last Monday we bumped into a very passionate man called Stuart Wallace from the Royal Mail outside the Sage He was in charge of launching and running the HealthBus, a Royal Mail service for postal workers to have health checks at work in the postal rooms across the country. It’s currently being piloted in the North East and they hope to fund more across the country. I thought it was a good example of a large company investing in a service to promote health to a potentially hard to reach group of men. It would be good to find out if any other companies are running similar services?

We’ve just had a very interesting conversation about the pros and cons of privatised healthcare. It will be interesting to see the level of service that this bus is providing and if this high-profile approach really works. If so what’s its relationship to existing services and will the NHS become increasingly reliant on auxillary private sectors services?

I think that’s an interesting point. I believe employers should be offering services around prevention and wellbeing in the work place and community.
Right now I can’t picture Royal Mail opening a hospital and if they did I wouldn’t go to it.

I wonder if they would lose patients like they did with my letter a few weeks ago?

It would be amazing to have a thinkpublic bus and we would tour the world spreading good, sustainable service design and innovation!
