The NHS gets a lot of stick and being involved with trying to improve the system its always exciting when you get the chance to be a real patient. I injured my finger yesterday playing basketball. The last joint was bent to left slightly and I could not bend it so I went to A and E this morning at Whitechapel General. I was seen immediately by two extremely friendly doctors in the minor injuries room. I was x-rayed within 15 mins of this first consultation and was able to leave within 35 minutes. This gave me no time to read my book. I was very impressed with the efficiency, friendlyness and speed of the service. Embarrisingly my finger is unlikely to be fractured and will straighten itself out on its own…

This sounds like an excellent service Ivo…
One of our current project is called making the shift which is looking at public perception of shifting care from hospitals closer to the home.
Based on this experience what is your opinion on this issue?

The hospital is only 15 mins away from where I live so I found this very convenient. If I could have recieved the same care closer then that would be great. However, I recieved an x-ray on Friday, surely it would be extremely expensive to have an x-ray any closer to my home and not further away from anyone else’s?

Good point Ivo, it will be interesting to see what our research unveils over the next few months.
Sounds like you now have a perfect opportunity to leave a public service thank you message on the website we are launching this week!
