When asked the question: What would you like to see the London Design Festival and the London Festival of Architecture do to mark the Olympics in 2012? The first thing that sprung to mind was the importance of documenting the massive change that is currently happening in east London in the run up to the Olympics. In line with this idea of recording and mapping an area I have recently been working on a self-initiated project called Design Detail Trail, with James Keogh, which represents a guide to the overlooked design details of London. The project aims to reveal the intrigue and refinement of these everyday design details whilst providing an alternative way to navigate and experience the city. To coincide with the 2010 London Festival of Architecture we have located details across the city, with a focus on five key areas:
North – Kings Cross & Bloomsbury
South – Borough
East – Shoreditch
West – Soho
Central – City & Clerkenwell
