Yesterday I visited an exhibition in Shoreditch Town Hall of work by 500 young artists from inner-city London.
The exhibition titled ‘Demons and Angels’ features work from young people with severe behavioural, emotional and social diffuiculties. It has been organised by the charity Kids Company to celebrate their tenth anniversary.
The exhibition was very engaging and I was particularly taken back by the sheer amount of people involved and the quality of work on display. I feel that sometimes exhibitions like this can feel cold and detached from the people and subjects involved, this was definatly not the case here.
The work was deeply emotional, communicated with the viewer and in places very provocative. One piece of work that stood out for me was a ‘wish tree’ where visitors were invited write their wish on a tag and hang it from a tree. Reading some of these was quite emotional and gave me a lot of hope for the future.
The exhibition is free and runs until 30th August.
How to get there

This was a really cool exhibition, full of work which I imagine a lot of young people and their families feel proud of.
It was also really intresting to walk around the basement of Shoreditch Town hall, it’s massive and a little spooky.

I also really enjoied being in the space. I felt really inspired by the visualisation of the hundreds of ideas that must existed to make up the exhibition. It felt very inclusive and open to every individuals input. Well recomended!
