I’m currently reading over 15 books, along with a handful of reports, blogs and the list goes on. There is so much information out there and it seems like a constant battle to keep up-to-date with all the exciting stuff that’s going on, especially when it involves sitting still and reading. I was wondering how long people spend reading each week and if anyone has tips on speed-reading they can share?

I was thinking about distributed reading. Give someone you know the book and let them read it. If they recommend it, you should read it too

Funny~ I have the habit to read more than two books in the same time…
There is a tiny book called ’speed reading in 7 days’, I found useful~ I finished a 250 book in two afternoons (with 10 pages of notes!!not sure if this is speedy to the average…)

The idea of distributed reading sounds great, I guess it’s a bit like a book club? Maybe we should start a book club that meets once a month to share ideas and update each other on what we have been reading.

don’t we do distributed reading anyway? I rarely read something that has not been recommended by someone who’s opinion I trust.
The only way i can see of cutting down the time, is reading a cut down version of the text. The problem with reading someone else’s notes is that they are making notes from a different perspective to you. I gave Deborah my old notes on Marx the other day, the problem for her is that they’re come from an anthropological perspective. There could be a database of notes that were clearly indexed and labeled, for example the service designer’s version of Crime and Punishment, the graphic designer’s version of The Origin of the Species etc…
