If I was to return to studying Anthropology, I’d like to study with Mike Wesch. Each year he and his students become participant observers of the web, engaging in large quantative and qualitative studies of patterns of behaviour. This presentation shows the results of some of these experiments in which Wesch explores the culture of posting opinions and ideas onto the internet and how ideas and behaviours are spread around.
He is wonderfully in awe of web culture and makes a good case for celebrating all of the weird and wonderful uses of youtube.

I watched this presentation at the weekend and thought it was really interesting. I had no idea that you tube was being used for in so many different ways.
I am tempted to start my on profile and ‘vlog’ and see what happens. But i’m conscious of not ‘adding to the noise’ I think its important to be talking about particular things or highlight an issue that then people can respond to.
I especially like the ‘one world’ hand videos. It’s clear that there’s a huge community on youtube and it offers another means of being able to reach an intriguingly diverse audience.
