Anna Maybank at GovWeb event (NESTA/FutureGov 15-12-08) from Rohan Gunatillake on Vimeo.
Dom Campbell brought together a fantastically enthusiastic and rowdy bunch of internet enthusiasts at NESTA last night. While the discussion was extremely interesting and lively, I agree with Anna Maybank that there is a fundamental reworking of government that was not really broached because we got somewhat caught up in a discussion of access: It seems that while access to the web is important and there is a lot of good work going on to get us passed the stagnation of home internet access at 60% as described by Derek Wyatt, this shouldn’t stop us from looking deeper in the direction of participative government. Lee Bryant steered the conversation in the right direction discussing ways in which people can be mobilised not only by leveraging their desire for money but their desires to help each other and do good things in general. The whole thing had a great atmosphere I and look forward to more of these in the future.
