‘Just a Routine Operation’ is a short documentary exploring human factors in operating theatre safety. The film focuses on the story of Martin Bromiley whose wife Elaine died during a routine sinus operation. By contrasting approaches to safety in aviation and health care the film challenges viewers to look at how aviation safety can inspire innovation in health care safety. Today, Just a Routine Operation is used in medical schools and in professional development training courses to create an understanding of operating theatre safety.
