Success stories

Clinic To Go

Working with staff from Birmingham North and East NHS Primary Care Trust (PCT), thinkpublic developed a new method for increasing localised health care. Spreading good practice nationally, thinkpublic co-developed the prototype for a 'Clinic to Go', a portable carry kit containing all the information required to set up a community clinic.

The first stage of this project involved the facilitation of a 'rapid prototyping day', where experiences of bringing care closer to patients' homes were explored and ideas developed. The second stage took place in co-design sessions where thinkpublic worked with the frontline staff to develop the chosen concept of a portable 'clinic in a box'.

Working closely with the NHS Institute for Innovation and improvement and PCT staff, thinkpublic developed and designed the final prototype for the 'Clinic To Go' toolbox, which was launched nationally across the NHS early in 2008.

Context

The NHS operating framework for 2008/2009 expects PCT's to take ambitious steps toward providing care as close to the patient's home as possible. NHS organisations therefore need to focus their efforts on those areas most likely to bring significant benefits and apply effective approaches to ensure that the change delivers.
