We are excited to see that thinkpublic’s recommendation for a information service has been written into the National Dementia Strategy which launched today:
“Objective 4: enabling easy access to care, support and advice following diagnosis. A dementia adviser to facilitate easy access to appropriate care, support and advice for those diagnosed with dementia and their carers.”
I think the key to improving the lives of people with dementia and their families is early diagnosis and subsequent support. The introduction of memory clinics to spot and treat dementia early is half of the solution. Guiding and supporting people after their diagnosis to the range of different services (both medical and social) will be critical to enabling them to continue to lead fulfilling lives.
